Monday 3/8 Live Blog

The 82nd Academy Awards are in the books with an overall predictable, yet entertaining, evening. The only beef we could find here at Jon & Mary in the Morning is the exclusion of the great Ed McMahon from the annual 'Montage 'O Death'. You're telling us, Oscar producers, that among the actors, directors, and executives who passed over the last year you couldn't find 3 seconds to slide in a picture of Ed?!?! You spent 15 minutes on a horror film montage alone, and another 10 on Miley Cyrus misreading her teleprompter. Shameful.

Critics call it "the next best thing to seeing The Beatles!" RAIN - A Tribute to The Beatles returns to the Milwaukee Theater this Sunday. We've got your chance to win tickets all week, and just a few seats left on the yellow submarine.

Dr. Glade Curtis chatted babies and the updated version of his bestselling book, Your Baby's First Year Week by Week. Indispensible advice for new mothers and fathers, the book includes new ideas for dealing with food allergies, santizing common areas, the latest juice guidelines, and more.

Oprah has begun her No Phone Zone campaign against texting while driving. Carol Harper is living proof of the consequences of inattentive driving. She joined us with a list of the top ten distractions that cause auto accidents. Get the full list and a dose of reality at Carol's website.

Our final guest of the morning was master detective and star of The Locator, Troy Dunn. Over the past 16 years, Troy and his team have helped thousands of people reunite with long lost friends and family members. Season four of The Locator is now airing Wednesdays at 9pm on WeTV.

Friday 3/5 Live Blog

It seems like only yesterday we were gearing up for the 81st Academy Awards (where...um, that one movie with the guy in it won Best Picture), and here we go getting set for the 82nd edition this Sunday. We're big fans of both Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin, the hosts this year, but don't you sort of hope someday for a re-animated Johnny Carson to once again take the reins as Oscar host? Maybe a clone Johnny? Maybe someone builds a Johnny robot? We'll keep our fingers crossed...

Conflict resolution expert Sharon Rivkin chatted about her new book, Breaking the Argument Cycle. Great advice for couples hoping to stop fighting without professional therapy. Find the groundbreaking 3-step method that resolves all arguments in the book, now in stores.

Tony Meade made his regular Friday visit to talk Oscars and new releases at your local cineplex. Johnny Depp and Tim Burton team up once again for Alice in Wonderland, and Richard Gere leads an all-star cast in Brooklyn's Finest. You can also still catch Best Picture nominees Avatar, Crazy Heart, Precious, and The Blind Side at area theaters. Get movie listings and showtimes at k107.com.

Thursday 3/4 Live Blog

Always a nice time when K107.1 Life Coach Mary T. Browne stops over for a visit. Mary kept us on the path of "forward thinking" as it relates to the Easter season and the rebirth of spring. Mary's book, The 5 Rules of Thought, helps get your journey started.

UFOs, alien abductions, and the coming ET presence?!? All that and more from author and former close encounter victim Jim Moroney in his latest work, The Extraterrestrial Answer Book. Why are they here? Where do most sightings occur? How should we respond? The answers lie within...if you dare (just watch out for those stray packets of Reese's Pieces showing up in your backyard).

Wednesday 3/3 Live Blog

On this date in 1931, the U.S. of A. officially adopted the Star-Spangled Banner as its national anthem, making today National Anthem Day! (light applause) In commemoration, we look back at that day in 1990 when Francis Scott Key turned over in his grave as Roseanne peformed his song prior to a San Diego Padres game. Remember kids, the crotch-grab always comes after "...and the home of the brave."

Dr. Jeff Junig joined us to talk feelings. Nothing more than fee-ee-eelings. How to make sense of your feelings when you've reached the breaking point? Convert your sense of being overwhelmed to something more practical -- mad, sad, glad, ashamed, afraid, hurt. See Dr. J online or in person on Main Street in downtown Fond du Lac.

Author Barry Rothman posed an interesting query in his new book, Mary Ann or Ginger: The Dilemma in Every Man's Life and How to Deal With It. As the worlds of relationships and pop culture continue to intersect, Barry claims the problem will only get worse. (Is anyone more of a Lovey Howell guy like Jon? Just wondering...)

K107.1 Petspert Dr. Ann Sosalla gave us an intimate look at parasites in your pet. As fun as they sound, they can actually be quite harmful to your doggie or kitty. Think your pet might be infected? See Dr. Ann and staff at Companion Animal Care in Fond du Lac.

Shidara: The Drums of Japan brings its dynamic stage show to Sheboygan this weekend. Get your tickets for an intense afternoon of live music at the Weill Center on Sunday at 3pm.

Tuesday 3/2 Live Blog

Sad news to report this Tuesday morning as it seems our pal C-3PO has given up his New Year's resolution to quit smoking. Unconfirmed reports suggest R2-D2 has also suffered a relapse, as he was spotted indulging in a round of Colt .45s on Lando Calrissian's back porch. Tragic.

Nick 'n Willy's New Release Tuesday brings a pile of new movies and music into our lives. On DVD, pick up the film adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are, John Cusack battles the Mayans in 2012, and the great Paul Giamatti returns in Cold Souls. New albums include drops from Danny Gokey, Shooter Jennings, Lifehouse, Peter Gabriel, and Danny Elfman's Alice in Wonderland soundtrack.

Comedian Kitty Martini joined us with a fun and hopeful look at today's economic times. Her new book, Thank You For Firing Me! offers advice and over 30 pages of resources for those on the hunt for gainful employment.

Our friends Brian Carter & Sarah Cujak stopped by the studio with details on the upcoming Mid-Life Career Change seminar at the Women in Management meeting March 10 at the Ramada Plaza Hotel. Make advance reservations here, or call 920.921.1123.

The Windhover Center for the Arts in downtown Fond du Lac has once again filled our social calendars for the month of March. Kevin Miller from the Windhover gave us the scoop. If you missed any of the info, or to purchase tickets, surf over to the Windhover website.

Jackie Silver from Aging Backwards made her monthly visit with advice on "spring cleaning" for your makeup bag. Jackie's website has a plethora ("...tell me, Jefe, what is a plethora?") of beauty tips to keep you looking your best in every season.

Monday 3/1 Live Blog

March comes roaring in like a lion today with...a chance of scattered flurries?!? Very un-lion like (unless you're referring to the always accommodating Detroit Lion, in which case anything "scattered" is perfect). Today also marks the beginning of American Red Cross Month, Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and Women's History Month. Good times to be had by all.

Lynn from Club Olympia made her monthly visit with scale in hand. The numbers were encouraging, (Jon 217 lbs, 10.9% body fat; Mary 102 lbs, 15.1% body fat) if not a total cause for celebration. Stop in to see Lynn and get your sweat on with classes and fitness memberships.

More fun for green thumbers as the annual Chicago Flower & Garden Show returns to the Navy Pier this weekend. Listen all week for your chance to win tickets.

We celebrate National Pig Day this morning with our friends Babe, Arnold, Wilbur, Porky, and Ned Beatty. Congrats to our winners of some tasty Johnsonville Brats and free H1N1 shots (that rhymes!).

Pro Wrestling comes to Fond du Lac this weekend as NWA Unleashed invades The Shack Sports Bar on Friday night. Check out the action for just $10 at the door. (Special thanks to our in-studio guests for releasing Jon from that sleeper hold in time to finish the show.)
