Friday 7/31 Live Blog

Day 5 of EAA Airventure and another chance to see Capt. Chesley Sullenberger and First Ofc. Jeff Skiles from US Airways 1549 (with non-stop service into the Hudson). They chatted yesterday at Airventure and showed why they are the most inpiring pilots since Ted Striker.

Day 4 of EAA Airventure and quite a nice moment last night when Harrison Ford received the Freedom of Flight award. Let's hope that helps ol' Harry forget that his lovely fiance Calista Flockhart was sucked into the Airbus A380 turbine earlier in the day. Put on some pounds, girlfriend!

Day 3 of EAA Airventure and among today's highlights is the dedication of the new Johnny Carson Exhibit. The King of Late Night was also an avid pilot and his vintage bird will be on display, along with a few other artifacts (please note Johnny himself will be unable to attend).

Author and chef Brian Yarvin stopped by to promote his latest work, The Too Many Tomatoes Cookbook. Makes a great gift for someone who has a bumper crop of 'maters this year, or maybe someone who is just a big fan of lycopene.

K107.1 wedding expert Sharon Naylor shared tips on how grooms can keep their gals from turning into Bridezillas. Find more advice and fun stuff from Sharon at her website.

Day 2 of EAA Airventure and the celebrities are really coming out. Sir Richard Branson flying in on WhiteKnightTwo, Harrison Ford presenting a new crop of Young Eagles, and J-Lo eating a hot dog. Yummy!

It's a Nick 'n Willy's new release Tuesday, featuring the latest Fast & Furious, Dragonball: Evolution, and Miss March. As far as new music goes, don't bother...unless the new Ashley Tisdale album gets you excited.

NY Times bestselling author C. David Heymann chatted with us about his new book, Bobby and Jackie: A Love Story. Check out the scandal and the aftermath that brewed following JFK's assassination.

Day 1 of EAA Airventure 2009 brings Sir Richard Branson aboard WhiteKnightTwo. This is the best photo we could find of Sir Richard, and it really illustrates how big he has gotten since starting those hormone treatments. That's the actual, full-size WhiteKnightTwo he's holding.

In addition to the excitement of Airventure, the Green Bay Packers also return this week. Camp opens on Friday and we chatted with our pal Margaret Corrente about how you can grab a seat on the K107.1 motorcoach for the Packers-Bills preseason game on August 22.

This can't be right, can it?!? The final weekend of July is upon us?!? Sad. Stunning. Seems like we were just polishing off the ol' lawn darts for our annual Memorial Day tournament.

Host of the PBS series, A Place of Our Own, Elizabeth Sanchez joined us to talk about her new book, Watercooler: Behind the Scenes and Off the Record, the Untold Stories from Broadcasters. Loooong title aside, it's a good read and now in stores.

The Bachelor Guy helped us celebrate National Tequila Day (who knew?) and introduced us to the new Tabasco brand tequila. !Hotchi-motchi!

July 4th weekend has arrived...and as dad always said, "if you got the same number of fingers after the Fourth as you did before it, consider yourself blessed."

Kevin Miller stopped by to fill us in on July events at the Windhover Center in downtown Fond du Lac, and then we ran down the listing of area fireworks this weekend (see yesterday's blog entry for details).

Local artist Jeff Kahlow told us the amazing story of meeting KISS at Summerfest last weekend. Jeff's the guy who makes all those cool hats for Walleye Weekend, and he put together some very special-edition Big Guy Hats for Gene and the boys.

Oshkosh's newest, and possibly smallest, small business is up and running as Team Lemonade has set up shop at Choice Bank. The four owners range in age from seven to ten and can be found at the Choice Bank location on Witzel.

We took a look at the "mature" version of patriotism put forth by Dr. David Gruder. Understanding the U.S. Constitution means more than just memorization, it takes a willingness to put those principles into practice on a daily basis, according to the Doc...especially on a holiday like July 4th.

So when do we start worrying about not having any celebrities left to entertain us? Or worse yet, the possibility that Pauly Shore is the last one standing?

Weekend Buzz took us around hot spots in the South Valley, including area fireworks displays: Appleton and Ripon on Friday; Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, Neenah, Menasha on Saturday; Kimberly on Sunday. A chance to see fire in the sky THREE nights in a row?!? Truly an amazing age we live in.

The Reverend Al Sharpton welcomes the month of July and mourns Michael Jackson by grinding on a random girl last night at the Apollo Theater. Not sure if the Rev will be chosen to perform MJ's actual burial service this weekend, but he gets our vote.

Dr. Jill Taylor talked about her experience as a brain doctor who had a stroke. The irony of that happening, and her journey back to normalcy are detailed in My Stroke of Insight, now in stores.

As Lance Armstrong gets set for a return to Le Tour de France, author John Wilcockson chatted about his new book, Lance: The Making of the World's Greatest Champion.

Our K107.1 petspert, Dr. Ann Sosalla gave us tips on traveling with pets or the best ways to kennel them while you're off on vacation. Dr. Sean Foreman, our K107.1 political analyst, took a look at the growing "Luv Guv" scandal brewing in South Carolina.
