So how did you spend your weekend? We did our best to fight the chill and leave August behind us. Mission accomplished.
We made our first tasty winner on a Mancino's Monday (check out their menu here), followed by our final winner of Brewers tickets for the 2009 season. They're still in it, baby!!! Only 12 games behind!!!
Stan Romanek is the author of Messages: The World's Most Documented Extraterrestrial Contact Story. After over two dozen alien encounters, Stan has collected videotape evidence, photos, and lab reports to back up his claims. He was kind enough to share his story with us this morning, with an anal probe tossed in at no extra charge.
What better way to wrap up the show than by chatting to uber-babe Amber Valletta? She stars alongside Gerard Bulter in the new movie Gamer, opening in theaters this Friday.

CBS has announced the cast for the new season of Survivor (located on the border of North Korea and South Korea -- how wacky!), and while there are no Wisconsin residents represented, we've already found our early favorite: 25-year-old Kelly, a hairstylist from Los Angeles. Kelly's likes include styling hair and being on reality shows...her dislikes include bug bites and being hit on by Jeff Probst. YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!
Brian Leaf has taken the Twilight saga and made it into a vocabulary lesson for students who are fans of the series. Defining Twilight is the new book Brian stopped by to tell us about, and in our opinion quite stupendous, magnificent, phenomenal, and sensational.
Our Johnsonville Packer Preview got the juices flowing for Green Bay's visit to Arizona tonight to face Larry Fitzgerald and the Cardinals. Catch all the coverage starting at 7pm on K107.1.
Newspaper reporter J.T. Rushing helped us look back at the life and career of Senator Ted Kennedy. J.T. writes and blogs about the happenings in Congress for The Hill.
Master film-spooler Tony Meade made his regular Friday visit and gave us the 411 on what's new in theaters. Rob Zombie gets an early jump on trick-or-treating with Halloween II, or you can check out The Final Destination (and maybe Taking Woodstock if you happen to be in a selected city). Movie listings and showtimes always online at k107.com.

We're having trouble deciding which is more disturbing: Macauley Culkin having birthday number 29 today or Corky from Life Goes On turning 44. That isn't to say we wish them anything but the best, just lamenting the loss of innocence (theirs and ours) over lo these many years.

In our continuing quest to cover every last angle of the Michael Jackson story, we present this image of "what might have been...." Seems MJ was in talks to pick up a regular gig in Las Vegas once his O2 shows wrapped up. As a way of alerting the masses that Jacko was in town, promoters were going to build a 50-foot robot in his likeness to stand guard over the strip. This is the artist's rendition of...well...a big metallic King of Pop.

Monday 8/10 Live Blog
National S'mores Day is upon us once again, and we celebrate with a very special recipe you can make indoors (or possibly on your engine block during your next traffic jam). Here are the details from Mary's kitchen, by way of Family Circle:
Ingredients
Crust:
14 whole graham cracker boards, crushed (2-1/4 cups crumbs)
3 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) butter, melted
Brownie:
6 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
3/4 cup (1-1/2 sticks) butter
3 eggs
1-1/4 cups sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla
Topping:
1 jar (7.5 ounces) marshmallow cream (about 1-1/2 cups)
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup mini chocolate kisses
3 whole graham cracker boards, broken up
Directions
1. Heat oven to 350° F.
2. Crust: Combine the graham cracker crumbs, sugar, salt and melted butter in a small bowl until the dry ingredients are evenly moistened. Transfer the crumb mixture to a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan; press crumb mixture evenly over the bottom of the pan, pressing the crumbs evenly into the corners and along the sides of the pan. Refrigerate the crust until chilled and set.
3. Brownie: Combine the bittersweet chocolate and butter in a microwave-safe glass bowl or glass measuring cup. Heat chocolate mixture in a microwave oven on high until the chocolate and butter are melted, about 1 minute. Stir the chocolate mixture until smooth.
4. With a hand-held electric mixer on medium-high speed, beat together the eggs and sugar in a large bowl until well blended. Reduce the speed to medium. While continuing to beat, gradually add the melted chocolate-butter mixture to the egg mixture; beat until the mixture is smooth, scraping down the side of the bowl occasionally.
5. Stir the flour and salt into the egg mixture. Then stir in the vanilla until smooth. Scrape the brownie mixture into the crust-lined baking pan; smooth the top level with a rubber spatula.
6. Bake in 350° F oven for 30 minutes or until the top is smooth and the center is set when gently pressed with fingertip.
7. Topping: While the brownie layer is baking, whisk together the marshmallow cream and the milk in a small bowl until the mixture is well blended and smooth.
8. Pour the marshmallow topping mixture over the brownie layer in the pan. Spread or tilt the pan to level the topping and cover the brownie layer completely.
9. Sprinkle the mini chocolate kisses evenly over the marshmallow topping. Then scatter the crumbled graham crackers all over the top.
10. Bake in 350° F oven for 3 minutes or until the chocolate kisses are glossy and the marshmallow topping is set. Let cool in the pan on a wire rack. Cut into bars.
The Wisconsin State Fair continues following a weekend of soggy goodness. If the thunderstorms didn't keep you away, the 100 degree heat index might have. When's the last time you saw Chef Boyardee toss his cookies, hmm? Call 1-866-626-5888 and ask for James for your copy of The Miracle of Wild Oregano.

Webster's defines "carny" as: of or pertaining to corn; a hackneyed or stale reference. Now we're not exactly sure if that fits our image of a carny, but either way the excitement continues to build at a pair of carny hotspots in our area. Check out the fun at the Wisconsin State Fair, just getting started yesterday, or the final weekend of the Winnebago County Fair.

The 5th annual Midwest Music Acoustic Music Festival kicks off tomorrow in Elkhart Lake. Shannon Brunet had all the details on another great line-up. Our favorite part of the festival is the fact that it's a FREE way to get out and shake your groove thang.

Tony Meade was our final guest this morning talking new releases at your local cineplex. The pick here is to see Julie & Julia, starring the lovely Meryl Streep and Amy Adams. If you're into the non-cooking-heavy-artillery mood, GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra is also in theaters, along with The Perfect Getaway.

Monday 8/3 Live Blog
So....August? Already? As is our custom, we choose to celebrate a new month with a photo of a random celebrity in his/her bathing suit. This month, Jack Nicholson gets the honor. We can barely handle the truth.

The AARP Retirement Survival Guide answers all the critical questions for those who need to know. Author Julie Jason has more tips online and her latest book is now in stores. Drop her an e-mail at readers@juliejason.com.
Kevin Miller from the Windhover Center in downtown Fond du Lac gave us a rundown on what's big for the month of August. After that, we looked at more BIG fun with the Winnebago Co. Fair kicking off tomorrow and the Wisconsin State Fair getting started on Thursday.
